The following is a quick walkthrough on the Osprey "recovery" USB process — this gives a straightforward way to pull a full backup of everything filmed off the NVMe, using a single USB stick.
Setting up the recovery USB (one-time setup per stick)
1. Take an empty USB drive and plug into a Windows PC
2. Right-click within the window where files would be on the USB and create a new text file.
3. Rename the file to "recovery" and delete the .txt extension.
4. Windows will prompt you to confirm the extension change — confirm it.
5. You should now have a single empty file on the USB named "recovery" with no extension.
That's it for setup — this USB is now your recovery drive.
Using it in-game and/or after a game
1. Plug the recovery USB into the Osprey.
2. The Osprey will automatically detect the USB & recovery file and begin copying any files from the NVMe that were created in the last 24 hours.
3. You'll see status updates on the Osprey display: "Starting recovery, scanning files..." followed by "Copy # of #, #% complete."
4. Once it shows complete, unmount the USB. You now have a full backup of everything filmed on the NVMe for that session.
**NOTE: Using the recovery process puts .mp4 and the .json file on the drive, and deletes the original "recovery" file - you cannot use the USB to recover multiple times. However, you can recover from a Talon at Half Time, and you can recover from a Talon at the end of a game. Both instances will copy all files recorded in the last 24 hours.
